Abstract (EN)
Purpose: Urinary tract infection in children is a frequent cause and one of the important issues in the field of nephrology. The incidence of urinary tract infection varies according to age and sex. Patients who have undergone pyelonephritis at least 2 times in the past year or who have undergone 1 pyelonephritis and 2 cystitis or 3 or more cystitis are considered as recurrent Urinary tract infection. Recurrent urinary tract infection Risk factors are; female child, uncircumcised male, anatomical disorders, neurogenic bladder, vesicoureteral reflux, toilet training, voiding dysfunction, obstructive uropathy, frontal cleansing, tight lingerie and constipation.Constipation is a common cause and may not always be noticed even by parents. In our study, we have detected distal colon diameter and rectum diameter values in patients with recurrent urinary tract infections.Distal colon diameter and rectum diameter values were also reported in patients who were admitted to the hospital for different reasons without any urinary tract infection and ultrasound withdrawal. By comparing these two groups, it was planned to approach the etiology of recurrent urinary tract infection from a different direction. Materials and Methods:This study was planned to be done in patients between the ages of 2-12 who applied to our clinic with the diagnosis of recurrent urinary tract infection in Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatrics. The patient group consisted of 40 patients and the control group consisted of 40 patients. Age and gender distributions were equally selected. Patients were planned to evaluate rectal diameter and distal colon diameters. Results: No significant difference was found between dermographic data. The number of patients with constipation was significantly higher in the case group than in the control group. Significant differences were found between the rectal diameter and the distal colon diameters between the patient group and the control group. It was found that the increase in age did not affect the rectum diameter, and the distal colon diameter had a weaker lateral effect. If the rectal diameter cut-off value is greater than 29.5, constipation can be estimated with 80% sensitivity and 78% specificity; For distal colon diameter, constipation with a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 62% can be estimated with a cut-off value of 19.5 or greater. Conclusion: In the etiology of recurrent urinary tract infections, rectal diameter and distal colon diameters can be measured to determine the constipation status of which the parents did not notice.
