A research on the strategies of asking questions in class activities of first year Turkish teachers of second level of basic education

11 ABSTRACT This study tries to determine the strategies of asking questions in class activities of first year Turkish teachers of second level of basic education. Our studies include to reveal whether the determination and evaluations of asking question, which is data about being taken into account as a result of behavioral sciences on scientific studies on mother tongue's instruction, conforms to present applications of Turkish teachers; also, as determining the present defects, to overcome which it aims to propose what it should be done. In this study, asking question is not argued in the frame of "ask-answer" method which is one of instruction methods in classic sense of education; whichever method is put into application, it is emphasized that how teachers utilize question in class activities and how they can utilize them in the most efficient manner. For this reason, primarily it is taken into consideration that which attitudes are right in the light of behavioral sciences, afterwards the opinions of scientist of education is explained and for experts of education in class activities how questions in right place, right time and right style are proposed to use is tried to determine. In the light of this data as mentioned, the present studies of Turkish teachers are determined by means of taking polls of teachers and students, participated observation and analyzing records which is taken during the lesson. This study is a result of the polls which is taken to 690 students and 18 teachers, observing the 18 hours of Turkish lesson by researcher himself and analyzing the records which belongs to these 18 hours of Turkish lessons. There fore, as the difference between scientific data and present applications mentioning, the reasons of lacks, defects of these applications and what should be done are presented in order to eliminate them as suggestion.
