The Socioeconomic structure of havza according to the temettuat notebooks (1844-1845)

In the time of Otoman Empire, there hed been made a new law toyet a single tax from people according to their commercial income. ?TheTemettuât Notebooks? prepared according to the notes taken fordetermining the real estate, property and income of people are registeredin ?The Premiership of Otoman Archives?. ?The Temettuât Notebooks?gave important information about the socio economic structure of thesettlements they belong to.Our study is the evaluation of the socio economic structure ofHavza in the middle of 19th Century according ?The Temettuât Notebooksof Havza? which are made up of 41 books. Our thesis, the headline ofwhich is ?The Socioeconomic Structure of Havza According to theTemettuât Notebooks (1844-1845)? is composed of four parts.In the Entrance part; the topics both ?The name of Havza and it?sshort history from the first ages till nineteenth century and The TemettuâtNotebooks of Ottoman Empire and the specialities of the books belong toHavza? which explain the historical background of the preparation of theTemettuât Notebooks which are the basic source of our study are takenpart in. The quality and importance of those books as a source foreconomic and social history were dwelt on.In the first part, it was given information about tha accupations andthe population information of the social structure of the city. The spread ofthe population is examined by the help of charts. The accupations of thaheads of the families, the classification of these accupations according totheir speacialities and their rate in population and parts in the economicsituation of the city are some of the topics studied in this part.In the second part, the income resource which from the economicstructure of the city take part. Both the groups of income and thecomporison of the accupation-income are examined in the secture.In the third part the topics; animal husbandry and agricultural lifeare studied. Tha amant of the agricultural fields belongs top er a quarter, avillage and a house and the spread of these fields according to theproducts are taken part in here. Furthermore the spread of animalsaccording to their kinds and specialities and comparisons of them aremade in this part.In the fourth part the spread and types tax are explained.The knowledge of the Price Books which are the main source of ourthesis are grouped according to thair topics and those are evaluated byshowing charts.
