Cleaning personnel's knowledge and behaviors about hospital cleaning: A hospital example

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge and behavior of cleaning personnel who worked in COVID-19 pandemic wards about hospital cleaning by correlating them with their sociodemographic characteristics and their status of receiving cleaning training during the pandemic period. Material and Methods: The study is cross-sectional and consisted of cleaning staff working in the COVID-19 pandemic wards at Prof. Dr. Feriha Öz Emergency Hospital between 30.06.2023, and 30.12.2023, who volunteered to participate in the study (N: 150). An attempt was made to reach the entire population of 150 people without any sample selection, and 108 were reached. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, Man-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H, and Chi-square tests. Results: A total of 108 people aged 20-55 participated in the study. A statistically significant difference was found between participants' use of personal protective equipment (p<0.001), their receipt of hospital cleaning training during the pandemic (p<0.05), and their educational nature (p<0.05). In all three findings, those employed for 0-5 years were higher than those with 16 years or more. Male participants found the training more educational than female participants. Conclusion: During the pandemic, 83.3% of respondents used hospital care training materials, while 16.7% did not. When asked whether they had knowledge of the training, 97.2% responded yes, and 2.8% responded positive. Survey results show no significant impact of sociodemographic characteristics on knowledge and attitude scores. Keywords: Information, Education, Behavior, COVID-19 pandemic
