The relationship between insulin device satisfaction and self-management in individuals with type 2 Diabetes mellitus

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between insulin device satisfaction and self-management in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The population of the study consisted of individuals who were followed up in Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital with diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and who used insulin. G*Power analysis was used to determine the sample. The sample consisted of 254 individuals who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. The study data were collected by face-to-face interview method between November 9, 2023 and March 1, 2024. "Individual Identification Form", "Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DMSQ)" and "Insulin Device Satisfaction Scale" (IDSS): Type 2" were used to collect data. SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 22.0 package program was used for data analysis. In the sample, the mean total score of the IDSS was 3.65±0.67, the scores obtained from its subscales ranged between 3.36±0.78 and 3.87±0.57, and the mean total score of the DMSQ was 3.89±0.57, and the scores obtained from its subscales ranged between 1.24±0.30 and 1.53±0.51. It was determined that the scores of the individuals included in the study showed variability according to socio-demographic characteristics, variables related to diabetes management and insulin administration, and metabolic control data. As a result of linear regression analysis, a statistically significant negative relationship was found between participants' diabetes self-management and satisfaction with insulin application (R=0.129, R2= 0.017, p<0.05). As a result, patients' satisfaction with insulin device use affects diabetes self-management. With regular follow-up and education programs to be applied to individuals with diabetes, it should be aimed to eliminate problems related to insulin administration and increase satisfaction and to strengthen diabetes self-management.
