Abstract (EN)

After the Civil War in Syria, Syrians begun to move to Turkey. Syrians people have been immigrating to Turkey day by day since 2011. Turkey has always been a first choice for Syrian people. First immigrants arrived to Turkey on 29 April 2011. After this date Syrian immigrants' numbers increased every day. This research demonstrates Syrian immigrant population established in Izmir which hosts the largest 8th Syrian immigrant population. Research aim is discover and understand Turkish people's behavior, prejudgements against Syrian or Arabs, the difference between Arab and Turkish folks, traditions and how to adapt immigrants in Turkish society. Also this research shows Arab and Turkish nation's opinions against each other, such as permanent residency, rent a house, living together, neighbourhood and marriage. All these information is gathered from ten different suburbs: Cigli, Gaziemir, Dikili, Kiraz, Urla, Selcuk, Karsiyaka, Bornova, Basmane and Buca. We selected ten different people at every suburbs so one hundred people attended our survey. We used detailed interview methods on this survey. We figured out our attendees get a clue about Syrians by media. Just %11 of our attendees had visited middle eastern countries before and %39 of them thinking to visit to same countries. %55 of our attendees declared they already know at least one arab people before and %62 of same people gave us negative feedback such as disloyality, tricky and uneducated. Most of our attendees decleared they have no idea about Turks and Arabs relationships. I would like to say our attendees briefly said there is no difference between Arabs and Syrians when we asked them what is the reason behind of this negative opinions they said "they escaped from war, they do not have any adoption on our society and they are ignoring that.'' Almost half of our attendees said "we have some similarities with Syrian's like tradition, language, religion and cusine. On the other side they said "we do not have any similarities with syrians such as culture, cleaning habits and dining attitudes. %86 of our participants were against giving temporarily or perminant residency or citizenship for Syrians by our government and %76 of them were against keeping Syrians in Turkey. Many of our participants think Syrians do not adapt themselves to İzmir, just %26 of participants support Syrians in terms of money, food or mentality. Rest of attendees declared "they already get government supports therefore we do not need to support them also %71 of participantes against the mendicity by Syrians." Society relations side is much way worse than economical or immigrant side. %14 of our attendees decleared they can rent own flats to Syrians and %66 of them accept Syrians as a neighbour. Also our participants said they have never ever think to get married with syrians and they do not support that kind of marriage proposals. Many of them clearly noticed, Syrians have been effected their lifestyle when they came to İzmir for example they brought security issues, employee problems and raised rent prices. Last thing we found out, many of store owners do not trust Syrians as an employee so they do not hire any syrians in their shops.
