Measuring the knowledge level of faculty of medicine and nursingdepartment students on forensic biological analysis: The case of Hitit University

This thesis aims to measure the knowledge level of medical and nursing students on forensic biological analyses. While forensic biological analyses play an important role in solving crimes, evaluating the knowledge and awareness levels of medical and nursing students in this field is of great importance for the development of educational curricula. The study was conducted among Hitit University Medical Faculty and Health Sciences Faculty Nursing Department students and the knowledge levels of the students on forensic biological analyses, DNA analysis, toxicology, microscopic examination and other forensic medicine applications were measured. The data collected by the survey method was analyzed to determine the students' interest and knowledge levels on forensic biological analyses. The results revealed that medical students have more knowledge on forensic biological analyses, but nursing students have a lower level of knowledge on this subject. It was observed that the medical school curriculum gives more place to biological sciences and forensic medicine courses, while information on forensic biological analyses is insufficient in nursing education. These findings indicate that training on forensic biological analyses should be strengthened in both departments. The findings of the thesis provide suggestions for providing more comprehensive training on forensic biological analysis in health professions education and increasing awareness in this area. It is also concluded that educational materials and curricula should be reorganized to vii teach forensic biological analysis more effectively. This study aims to strengthen the place of forensic biological analysis in health professions education and to contribute to students gaining more comprehensive information on this subject.
