Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Simulation-Based Education Program on parents knowledge, anxiety and care skill levels, whose children aged 1 month to 18 years, who underwent tracheostomy for the first time. Material-Method: The study carried out as a quasi-experimental study in the pretest posttest order. Research data collected between January 2021 and January 2022. The sample of the study consisted of parents (n=28) whos children aged 1 month to 18 years, who underwent tracheostomy for the first time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Akdeniz University Hospital. Simulation-Based Education Program was applied for 4 days to both parents of children who were planned to be discharged with tracheostomy. Data were collected through the "Child and Parent Information Form", "State-Trait Anxiety Scale", "Tracheostomy Care Skill Checklist", 'Simulation-Based Education Program Evaluation Questionnaire' and 'Simulation-Based Education Program Feedback Form'. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 package program. Results: The tracheostomy mean total care skill score of the mothers was reported as125.46±24.12 on the simulation model, 105.86±27.04 on the child in the pediatric intensive care unit and 139.83±8.90 on the child in the inpatient service. The mean total care skill score averages of the fathers was determined as 125.16±21.44 on the simulation model, 101.12±27.20 on the child in the pediatric intensive care unit and 138.20±10.16 on the child in the inpatient service. When the mean total care skill score of tracheostomy care skills of the parents were compared in terms of simulation model, on the child in the pediatric intensive care unit and on the child in the inpatient service, a statistically statistically significant difference was found (p<0.001). The mean total score of pre-educational "State-Trait Anxiety Scale" of the parents who attended the training was determined as 66.21±10.65 for the mothers and 58.57±11.80 for the fathers, respectively. After the training, the mean total score of "State-Trait Anxiety Scale" was found to be 34.28±11.69 for the mothers and 32.92±11.23 for the fathers, respectively. When the parents mean "State Anxiety Scale" total skill score was evaluated in terms of pre- and post-education, a statistically significant difference was found (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that simulation-based education program had a statistically significant positive effect on the development of tracheostomy care skills of parents and their anxiety levels. Key words: anxiety, pediatric intensive care, simulation, skill, tracheostomy
