Abstract (EN)
In parallel with the rapid population growth, there is an increase in the amount of waste generated. Conventional methods used for the disposal of wastes today are not suitable for the reuse of these wastes in a way that will not harm the environment or to obtain energy. In recent years, the energy values of wastes that may cause negative effects on the environment have started to be taken into account and the tendency towards disposal methods that can generate energy is increasing. The Thrace region is located in an important geographical region for Turkey, where the population is dense, industry, agriculture and livestock activities are carried out together, and solid waste production with high energy potential is also high. In this study, the biogas potential in the Thrace region was determined by considering animal wastes, vegetable wastes, treatment sludge and urban solid wastes. In determining the biogas potential of the Thrace region, yearly Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data were used. In this study, it was determined that the total biogas potential in 2010 was 203.267,64 m3/day, the total biogas potential in 2015 was 243.882,45 m3/day on average, and the total biogas potential in 2020 was 260.776,79 m3/day on average. In the Thrace region, which has experienced rapid population growth with industrialization, the amount of waste with high bioenergy potential has also increased and the biogas production potential has increased rapidly. As a result, instead of depleting fossil fuels, it is possible to use biogas energy, which is among the renewable clean energy sources both in the Thrace region and throughout our country, to dispose of wastes in the most appropriate way and to obtain energy with an ecological approach.
