Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to determine the fiber quality and usage possibilities of the wool obtained from Karacabey Merino and Kivircik sheep breeds raised in the Thrace region. A total of 127 female wool samples of Karacabey Merino (Tekirdağ and Edirne) and Kivircik (Kirklareli) were obtained from the head, abdominal, and dorsal region of the animal by sheep shears from breeders. Fiber fineness, fiber length, strength, and elongation of each wool samples were analyzed. In this study, the effects of breed, age, and sampling region were significantly affected the wool quality characteristics (P<0.05). The average fiber fineness, fiber length, strength, and elongation values of Karacabey Merino were found to be 26.26 µm, 10.45 cm, 8.41 g/den, 18.44%, respectively. The average fiber fineness, fiber length, strength, and elongation values of Karacabey Merino were 23.51µm, 110.59 cm, 8.82 g/den, and 23.77%, respectively in Edirne. The average fiber fineness, fiber length, strength, and elongation values of Kıvırcık were found to be 28.56µm, 9.28 cm, 9.55 g/den, 24.76%, respectively in Kırklareli. It ıs disu aimed to make (contributon) to the literature by determining the fleece properties and improving wool's quality characteristics by creating an appropriate raw material profile for our country's textile industry. Key words: Karacabey Merino, Kıvırcık, Fleece properties
