Ideology and metaphorical discourse in Turkish poetry (1960-1980 period)

The aim of the study titled Ideology and Metaphorical Discourse in Turkish Poetry (1960-1980 Period) is to see the effects of ideology within the specified period in Turkish poetry and to clarify the thematic distribution of these effects at a scientific level. Revealing the role of metaphorical discourse in the reflection of these ideological effects on poetry is among the aims of the study. Thus, it is thought that the ideological identity of Turkish poetry in the modern age will be revealed through metaphorical depth and will be the source of new studies on its development. In line with these objectives, the basis of the study has been formed by focusing primarily on the relationship between ideology, art and metaphor. Subsequently, by focusing on the reflections of ideology in Turkish poetry before 1960, its causes and precursors, the events/factors that were the source of ideological discourse in the period between 1960 and 1980 have been revealed. In the final part of the study, in the light of the information obtained in the first parts, poets who wrote poems with ideological influence in the 1960-1980 period have been identified, and their poems have been subjected to thematic evaluation in terms of ideology and to examination in terms of metaphorical discourse. When the poets in the specified period have been considered and evaluated with three different ideological discourses, an intense ideological discourse content has been discovered in the poems in parallel with the political, social and economic developments at home and abroad. This ideological orientation, conveyed at a sloganic level by some poets, has generally been conveyed within the aesthetic boundaries of poetry. It has been witnessed that the poets of this period deepened their ideology in parallel with the level of the reader, by taking advantage of a world with deep meaning created through metaphors. Reflecting ideology at the level of metaphorical discourse, from a structuralist perspective, has offered various perspectives to the poem in the context of different meanings for the reader. Within this context, the progress of Turkish poetry in the period between 1960 and 1980 achieved through the depth of meaning created by ideology and metaphor has been revealed to the extent that the research allows.
