Feminine woman identity in Turkish cinema industry : Example from director Çağan Irmak

In this thesis, it is aimed to analyze feminine woman identity in Turkish Cinema as including Director Çağan Irmak. In this research, it is asserted that feminine gender style is weighted and dominant in movies of director Çağan Irmak. Within the scope of this assertion, it is tried to determine how was the woman identity revealed in the movies directed by Çağan Irmak and how was the feminine perspective reflected as a dominant style? In the reserch, Babam ve Oğlum /My father and my son, Issız Adam / Lonely, Prensesin Uykusu / Sleeping Princess, Dedemin İnsanları / My Grandfather's People, Tamam mıyız? / Are we OK?, Unutursam Fısılda / Whisper If I forget, Nadide Hayat , Benim Adım Feridun / My name is Feridun movies of Çağan Irmak are analyzed. Both in the World and in Turkey, sexual patterns are shown by means of media and are reflected as an object of narration. Again, cinema, which has been an important mass medium, mentions gender styles and always uses sexuality as a material. The scope of this study is the dominant and weighted feminine styles in the movies directed by Çağan Irmak. In this study, movies of Çağan Irmak are analyzed and feminine styles in those are determined and revealed. The target of this study is to benefit from Qualitative Content Analysis and to reveal messages in those movies. In Çağan Irmak movies, findings presenting the woman and revealing the feminine identites of woman intensively are obtained. Findings in the study are given over general appearane of woman characters and dialogues in Çağan Irmak Movies. Lifestyles, discourses, expressions and materials of woman characters of those movies which are taken as basis in this research, reflect the identities of women. This reflection causes sexual images of women in Çağan Irmak's cinema languageto be revealed clearly. This cinema language is related with women, while it could reflect men.
