Abstract (EN)

Purpose of this thesis study is to reveal the physical representations in Turkish cinema between 1960 and 1990 through disability. For this purpose, "Kınalı Yapıncak", "Hayatım Sana Feda", "Zehra", "Toprak Ana", "Kambur", "Gülüşan" and "Yorum Yok" films will be examined through critical discourse analysis. The body which is a physical phenomenon, and also a social phenomenon, took its place seriously in the sociology literature and was occured in the early 1980s. Sociology has continued to examine the social, economic and cultural relations of individuals, as if ignoring the existence of the body. Whereas there is an inseparable relationship between body and society. For centuries, the domination of power on the body has been normalized and continued to be transferred culturally. As one of the most effective means of transferring cinema and culture, has played a role of separating and othering the disabled individual. The body that is presented to us through cinema is the body created by society. It is concluded that the beheavours like prejudice, pity and exclusion against disability, which are still going on nowadays, are reinforced with representations of disability in cinema. Cinema has been effective in constructing negative perception towards disabled body.
