Development of the listening comprehension achievement test in teaching Turkish as a foreign language

This study was conducted to determine the listening comprehension skills of B1 level students learning Turkish as a foreign language. Accordingly, the problem statement of the study is "What is the listening comprehension skills of students learning Turkish as a foreign language at B1 level?" It constitutes the question. This study is a quantitative achievement test development study. The study group of the research consists of international students studying at B1 levels in Turkish Teaching Centers and Language Education Application and Research Centers of universities in Turkey in the 2023-2024 academic year. Two listening comprehension achievement tests consisting of 2 texts were developed for the determined study group. The opinions of 8 field experts were consulted during the determination of the texts and the development of the listening comprehension achievement tests. The data of the study were collected by applying the 1st and 2nd listening comprehension achievement tests. The data obtained from the research were analyzed through Test Analysis Program (TAP). As the validity and reliability results of the tests developed as a result of the analysis were among the values accepted in the literature, it was concluded that the listening comprehension achievement tests developed by the researcher were valid and reliable. Based on this, it has been observed that these listening comprehension achievement tests can be applied to foreign students learning Turkish at B1 level. According to this result, suggestions can be made to researchers working in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language to develop an achievement test in the field of listening comprehension skills at all language levels and to focus more on the measurement-evaluation step of teaching Turkish to foreigners.
