Abstract (EN)

With the Industrial Revolution, revolutionary changes occurred in almost every field. The definition of occupational accidents and occupational diseases also coincides with this period. In the past, it was possible to have an accident or illness while working but there were no large industrial enterprises until the Industrial Revolution. In the agrarian society, the majority of the population consisted of the traditional extended family and lived predominantly in the countryside. Since the traditional extended family also had a large degree of intra-family self-protection, any accidents or illnesses that might occur on family farms were dealt with through solidarity among family members. Therefore, the changing production structure, family structure and settlement structure necessitated state protection against accidents and illnesses that in the past were the responsibility of the individual and his/her family. In Germany, the main starting point in the establishment of social insurance was to create an insurance branch that would include protection against work accidents and occupational diseases. In the nearly one hundred and fifty years since its inception, this insurance scheme has spread to almost all parts of the world. The need for it has increased with the expansion of industry despite occupational safety measures. This study aims to analyze the situation of occupational accidents and occupational diseases in Turkey. The period from 1980 to the present was taken as the period of development. In addition to the literature review, econometric analysis was also performed. Granger causality analysis was used as econometric analysis. The findings show that the volume of employment by sectors is not the Granger cause of the volume of occupational accidents, but the change in the volume of employment in the change compared to the previous year is the Granger cause of the annual change in occupational accidents. However, it is concluded that there is no Granger causality of employment volume or annual change in employment on occupational disease.
