Abstract (EN)

The process of Turkey in the art of comic books was examined and humorous magazines, child magazines, publishers and drawers, which were important stops on the way to the comic books, were researched as of the Tanzimat Period. The development of the process was explained from the political, economic and social dynamics of the time to the present. Publications until the Proclamation of the Republic were also classified and examined as the Tanzimat Period, the Period of Autocracy and the Second Constitutional Period. The humorous publications related to the national struggle movement after the defeat of the World War I and the War of Independence were dealt with the approaches changed by the war. The main subject of my thesis was selected as Turhan Selçuk, who is one of the representatives of the middle generation with a unique way of writing internationally and has made a great effort for caricatures and comic books. Turhan Selçuk was found to be a successful social analyst when his caricatures and comic book of Abdülcanbaz was reviewed. The character of Abdülcanbaz, whom Turhan Selçuk drew almost all his life, more precisely, whom he gave life to, was liked and adopted by the readers. The main and side characters of Abdülcanbaz were investigated sociologically, ideologically and psychologically, and meanwhile, the social structure of the period was examined through the characters. Keywords: Comic Book, Graphic Humor, Caricature, Turhan Selçuk, Abdülcanbaz.
