Abstract (EN)

The academic journals as a communication tool first time appeared in Europe and came to Turkey later. The journals became a part of our life in England after books and newspapers. The journals are considered to be a communication channel between books and newspapers, which are tool for scientists to share and publish their research results. It was borne in England and spread to Europe. It has been commonly used as a scientific tool everywhere in the World including Turkey. Since the earlier years of the Republic, like the journal itself, we can see that the development of the graphic design practices is affected from Western countries. Like the journals, the graphic design practices which have been used in the journals also had arrived Turkey late. The Journal which spread from Europe to the World, with the developments in the graphic design practices in the U.S., England, and Germany, became a more effective communication channel between scholars, scientists, and researchers. When we look at the improvements of the graphic design practices over the years, we can clearly see the values and contribution to the graphic design literature. Especially, in terms of the cover page of the magazine, news-analysis, and the concept of the magazine, it can be seen that a lot of practices are transmitted. The journals which started to spread in Turkey before the Republic (because of the advanced communication tools, technology and transportation) have been continued improving after the declaration of the republic as well. This paper discusses and explores the historical developments in the graphic design practices in Turkey during the time of Republic.
