Examining the sociocultural adaptation of bilingual foreign students in Türkiye

This study aims to examine the sociocultural adaptation of foreign students who come to Turkey through educational migration in terms of different variables. The survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The population of the study is international students studying in different departments at Inönü University. The sample group of the study consists of 200 students who continue education at different levels in the 2023-2024 academic year. The data of the research were collected with the "Social Cohesion Scale for Immigrants (GSUÖ)" developed by Kaya in 2022. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 26 statistical data analysis program. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data and parametric tests were used to analyze normally distributed data. Analyzes such as normality tests, t-test, ANOVA were made with the data. The analysis revealed that international students exhibited high levels of sociocultural adaptation. It was observed that there was no significant difference in terms of sociocultural adaptation in the variables of gender, age, income level, father's education level and previous knowledge of Turkish. It was observed that there was a significant difference in terms of sociocultural adaptation in the class variable in favor of preparatory classes, in the country variable in favor of countries other than Arab countries, in the place of residence variable in favor of those staying in KYK dormitories, and in the mother's education level variable in favor of education level. In addition, it can be said that doing additional studies to learn Turkish and having a high GPA increase sociocultural adaptation. The findings of the research are largely parallel to the literature.
