Casuality between economic growth and energy consumption in Turkey

Energy consumption one of the popular topics in the World and Turkey. In addition to the benefits of developing and utilizing the technological provided, the social benefit and continuity of modern life, as well as having a devastating effect such as global climate change issue makes complicates production of energy. Turkey use imported goods like natural gas, oil and coal and own source; hydro power and coal. Turkey have already started to use renewable energy source like wind, solar, geothermal and biogas for many years, and these source called own resources. In this study BP primary energy consumption data used. Economic growth is an area where economists are measured by various methods and some economists claim that the distribution should be calculated rather than economic growth. In this study, Gross Domestic Produc (GDP) data, which is considered as an indicator of economic growth commmon in the literature, use and these data were obtained from the World Bank. The World Bank GDP datas are fixed 2010 US dollar price. The aim of the study is to determine relationship between energy consumption and GDP if there is exist. If any relationship between energy consumption and GDP, second aim is determine the hypothesis. The study results is energy consumption and GDP are cointegrated in Turkey were determined to come to balance in the long term. Error term of cointegration regression were stable according to Augmented Dickey-Fuller and Phillips-Perron unit root test. The direction of the relationship was examined with the Granger causality test, and a one way relationship from GDP to energy consumption was determined. This result shows that conservatioan hypothesis acceptable in Turkey; that means any saving policies for energy consumption won't affect economic growth.
