Econometric analysis on women's regional determinants of labor force participation rate in Turkey

The aim of our study is to determine whether the determinants of women's participation in the labour force in Turkey in 2016 differ at the regional level and the factors that make up the difference. Our work consists of three parts. The first section focuses on the importance of women's employment and its effects on economic growth and economic development are discussed with support from the literature. The view of women's employment in Turkey and in the world has been described. The course and trends of women's employment in the world are explained through sample countries. Later, the course of women's employment in Turkey, trends and characteristics of women's labour force in Turkey were supported by updated tables and statistical data. Afterwards, the reasons for the low participation rate of women in the labour force in Turkey were discussed. In the second section, the problems of women's employment are discussed. Both the problems women face in their working life and their inability to work are discussed in detail. The factors that determine the participation of women in the labour force are classified and explained with the support of the literature. In the final part of the analysis, the variables were grouped and these groups of variables were analyzed separately by econometric methods according to the properties of the variables. The findings were then interpreted and the study was concluded with the recommendations section.
