Abstract (EN)

The people who appear in media under titles as computer pirate, soldiers of virtualworld, heros of digital frontier etc., are generally considered as members of hacker culture.As one can understand from the titles there is a confusion and ambiguity on the meaning ofhacker culture. This culture which can be dated to 1960?s in the world, defined andredefined several times in years.Hackers and their actions affect computer culture on a fundamental level. Makingsense of who they are and what they do will also affect the Internet and computer culture.In this sense the questions like; who are they, why their actions are considered so muchimportant, what is their point of view, what is the meaning of their actions, why do they dothat, matters much more on account of being a subculture peculiar to Internet and computertechnology, while those new technologies are considered as the base of InformationSociety.In Turkey, hacker related news are on the increase in media, actions of Turkishhackers and reflections of this actions echoes in media frequently on national andinternational level. Who are Turkish hackers, how they perceive the hacker culture, whatare the tendencies and what are the projections for Turkish hackers for years to come?For answering those questions, an online questionnaire applied to over 258 Turkishhacker culture participants who are subscribers to some hack focused Internet sites, addingto this semi structured interviews have been made by 18 elite Turkish hackers.
