Abstract (EN)

The concept and the process of ?globalization?, which is getting more prominent over the time, has turned the world into a global village by minimizing the importance of national borders and enhancing the inter-linkages.The global competition is now forcing companies to produce and distribute their products and services faster and of good quality as well as to minimize the costs thereof. The production costs, in consideration of today?s market conditions, seem to be of no great difference when compared to one another. Under such an environment and under such conditions, a well-working management system is required for companies to continue the existence thereof and to keep on rendering services without losing the market share and profitability. And this requires well-managed logistic activities.Logistic activities are the main focus of the companies in order for ensuring better service for the customers. The accomplishment of such activities in the best possible fashion with due consideration to customer demands provides great benefit both for companies and customers. While the logistic activities, come up in consequence of the evolving conditions of competition, may modify the shape of the product, it substantially enhances the economic value of the product thanks to the conveniences offered thereby in respect of supply. As to the Turkish logistics industry, the geographical position of Turkey and the fact that Turkey functions as a bridge between the East and the West make the logistics industry a crucial industry of the transport sector in view of the economic growth of the region. Turkey, thanks to the geographical position, young and dynamic population thereof and the favorable developments in the said industry, has a great potential when it comes to the logistics industry. Turkey, linking the west to the east, is an attractive market for international logistics companies. Systematic and well-organized policies need to be developed and applied for ensuring the ability to compete with the companies with a high presence at the global level. This study discusses the activities as the constituents of the logistics, the current status of the logistics industry in Turkey as well as the strategies and recommendations required for ensuring the growth of this sector.
