Examination of pre-competition anxiety levels of football players competing in Turkish professional football leagues according to their personality characteristics

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between pre-competition anxiety levels and personality traits of football players competing in Turkish professional football leagues. Data obtained in this context, Süper Lig, TFF 1. League, TFF 2. League and TFF 3 League. It was collected by scales applied to 316 players from 40 teams randomly selected from among the teams in the league. The application form consists of three scales: a 15-point sociodemographic Form, a 20-point STAI form TX-1, and a 30-point fast Big Five Personality Test. Data from participants was analyzed with SPSS. Data analysis the total score obtained from the scale for the STAI form TX-1 was based on the score obtained from the lower dimensions for the fast Big Five Personality Test. Parametric tests were used because of the normal distribution of this study using the relational scanning method. In this direction, the t-test was used to compare quantitative continuous data between the averages of two independent groups, and the ANOVA test was used to compare quantitative continuous data between the averages of more than two independent groups. After the ANOVA test, Tukey and Tamhane's test were used as complementary post hoc analysis to determine the differences. Pearson correlation analysis was also applied among the continuous variables of the study. It is understood that there is a negative significant relationship between football players ' pre-competition anxiety levels and compatibility, responsibility and openness to experience, and a positive significant relationship between extraversion and emotional balance. Football players ' pre-competition anxiety levels vary according to their age, Penitentiary status, marital status, Professional Football time, other athlete status in their family, and average sleep time before the competition. The personality characteristics of the players vary according to the league in which they are located,the frequency of relegation to the penalized state, and the state of Education.
