Researcing political culture motifs in serial detective novels in turkey: "Ümit Deniz" case

This study has been conducted on revealing the political culture motifs in Ümit Deniz novels which were publicated in installments as serials between 1956 and 1975.Serial publication and detective novels which were started in the last quarter of 19th century in Turkey, has shown a great development after 1930. After this date many original detective novels had been written and publicated as serials. Serial publications has lost its importance with the rise of photonovels which become widespread in 1980s. Among the detective novels that are puıblicated as serials between 1930 and 1980 Ümit Deniz has a special importance regarding the topic selection and the character ?Murat Davman?. Ümit Deniz, has affected the follower detective novel writers.After analyzing the political culture motifs in Ümit Deniz novels, a predominant use of patriotism theme has been seen. As an identity, the most important component in defining patriotism is ?being a Turk?. Being a Turk is defined through origin and common history in the novels.
