Abstract (EN)
Election is one of the dominant elements of a democratic form of government. However, existence of elections does not fully mean that those countries have democracy. Important issues such as who can be a candidate and who can vote in the elections organized in accordance with the essence and meaning of democracy appear as premise criteria in measuring the level of democracy of a country. In addition to these, in electoral systems that vary from country to country, how much the society is represented in the Parliaments is another important issue. Since the establishment of the Republic, Turkey has implemented many different electoral systems. In this thesis, the democracy map of Turkey will be tried to be drawn by examining the electoral systems implemented in Turkey since the foundation of the Republic, and different perspectives of the connection between elections and democracy will be tried to be seen by looking at the election systems applied in other countries.
