The examination of local media problems in Turkey through local journal and suggestions for solutions

In this research, it is aimed to determine the problems of local newspapers through local newspaper employees throughout Turkey. In this context, the study was carried out with the employees of 942 local newspapers that comply with the determined criteria, and the data obtained from 702 people among these employees constituted the data source of the research. The research was carried out with a descriptive survey approach. In this direction, the scales used in similar studies in the literature and the problems identified as a result of interviews with two local newspaper employees selected from seven geographical regions were used in the creation of the research scale. After the construct validity study of the questionnaire, which was prepared by the researcher by taking the scale developed by Dağ (2018) as a reference and by developing this scale, it was used in the analyzes. In this context, exploratory and generating factor analyzes were used for the scale. In addition, split-half and Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency analyzes were used to determine the reliability of the scale, and it was concluded that a very reliable and consistent scale structure was formed as a result of the analysis results. The analyzes show that the problem areas of local media workers differ depending on the demographic characteristics. Participants exhibited a more pronounced perception of problems in the context of wages and benefits, workplace-related problems, education-related problems, and environmental problems.
