Nuh DÖNMEZABSTRACTIn later years the design of automatic controls supported in the rapid development ofcommercial and military aircraft systems to provide artifical stabilization and autopilots toaid pilots in navigating and landing their aircraft in adverse weather conditions. The goal of this thesis is to present an integrated detailed expression of basic elements ofwhole aircraft stability, flight control and autopilot design. Including classical flight controltheory, Root locus technique and PID control were explained that augments flight stability. Then Various control flight control system structures were investigated by using thesemethods. That based on analysis, Modern control theory was described. At the chapter 5, byusing system matrices for STOL transport aircraft, 3 different analysises were fulfilled todesign an autopilot. At the end of these analysises, optimum values were obtained forcomfortable flight direction on designer targets. Keywords: Autopilot, Autopilot design, Stability augmentation, Flight stability, Automaticcontrol, Automatic landing system, ILS, Flight control, Control system design, Compensation,Root locus, PID control, Pitch, Pitch control, Altitute control, Modern control theory,Feedback design, Optimal control, LQR, Observer design
