Abstract (EN)

Ugarit is located in northern Syria, in the area corresponding to the ruins of modern-day Ras Shamra, approximately 12 km north of Latakia. From the middle of the Early Bronze Age onwards, Ugarit functioned as a crossroads of cultural interaction between the Aegean, the Eastern Mediterranean, Egypt, Anatolia, and Mesopotamia, exhibiting a highly cosmopolitan character. From the mid-14th century BC until its destruction in the early 12th century BC, it served as the most important and valuable vassal of the Hittite Empire in Syria. The religious system of Ugarit was shaped by the city's coastal location and its Semitic origins. Its pantheon was heavily influenced by Canaanite religion, with deities such as El, Baal, Dagan, Mot, Anat, Asherah, Yam, Shapshu, Horon and Yarich constituting its core. This study provides a comprehensive examination of the Ugaritic pantheon. In addition to the principal deities, data on other gods have been analyzed, drawing primarily on Ugaritic cuneiform texts and incorporating relevant previous scholarship. This approach has enabled the collection of detailed information regarding the names and number of deities, the rituals and offerings associated with them, their symbolic representations, and their attributed powers.
