Economical and technological based evaluation of transportation system, new trends

Objective of the thesis is revealing developments year by year that has the faces of economical, technical, social, political and trying to clarify the relationship between different disciplines and transportation. On this context, with the affect of extention on informatics and technology on last decades, the type of development trends of transportation system is discussed within the frame of today's necessities. On this context, it is known that transportation has a mutual and integrated relationship with urbanization and it has understood that transportation is impulsion of common civilization level of humanity. In this regard, all these mentioned developments and trends are tried to evaluate on a specific content for highway, railway, airway and seaway transportation modes. Especially it has known that the emphasis of Europan Union (EU) acquis which contains prioritizing of railway investments as an argument of sustainable transportation on the axis of sustainable development. In Turkey, it is a phenomenon that investing to only highway transportation mode for more than a half century after railway focused years in late Ottoman period and early Turkey Republic period and 90% modal share of highway on passenger-freight transports and intraurban-interurban transportation system modal distribution. But either on the parallel of the necesitty or on the frame of EU adjustment laws, it has started to invest to railways on significant scales for last ten years. Because the unbalanced high modal share of highway is a negative case for either transportation system or highway transportation mode. As a result, at this point, altough mentioned share of highway has been relatively changed, currently various studies are exist by qualitively and quantitatively necessary. In Turkey, the main axis of railway invesments is high speed railway investments that has been made for last several years. In this content, development period and continuing investments of high speed railway that is a part of future perspective which is executed on the frame of development trends with economical and technological context of transportation system are evaluated detailed too.
