Infrastructure projects in turkey and innovative implementations in project management

In Turkey, transportation investments have taken the first number on the agenda on the last decades. Some of these investments are Marmaray, Euroasia Tunnel, Istanbul 3rd Airport, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bosphorus Bridge, Ankara-Eskişehir-Istanbul High Speed Railway (HSR), Ankara-Konya High Speed Railway (HSR), Ovit Tunnel ve Osmangazi Gulf Bridge. Tremendeus projects like Kanalistanbul is mnetioned beside many airport projects in Anatolian cities that are existing many urban railway system projects in Istanbul and any other major cities beside high speed railway projects that connects the cities of Turkey by west to east and by south to north. All of these mentioned projects are infrastructure projects. As it is known, infrastructure investments and costs in developing countries consist the main part of the budget and have a central role in political decisions. On contrast to developed countries, an infrastructural establishment period is existing that continuos rapidly in developing countries. Infrastructure also is an issue that related to access direclty to the public on a stated standard level of basic guarantees of the state as well as education, health and service sectors. Each of the sources like electricity, water, naturel gas and transportation assign to an infrastructure and necessiates an infrastructural constitution. Turkey continues the period of infrastructural establishment and renowation rapidly as a developing country which aims to being one of the biggest economy all over the world. Always transportation has an important share on either investment amounts or investment costs in infrastructure investments. This transportation share in Turkey and Istanbul has higher level than the world average. Nowadays these shares aim to reach of 50% levels. Because of these, project management, management notions, usage of innovative Technologies and organizational structures have a vital role in Turkey which has a dense infrastructure establishment period and gives prority to transportation. On this context, objective of the thesis is firstly sharing several informations about transportation projects, stating a framework about the position of transportation and related trends with developing Technologies. Secondly, it is aimed to give the existing case and related trends of project management with giving proposals about the necessities.
