Evaluation of first and fourht grade female university student?s knowledges, attitudes and behaviors on menstruation

Abstract (EN)
Study is conducted to observe university student?s knowledge, attitude and behavior towards menstruation and its effecting elements.Study planned as descriptive. It is among Cukurova University Faculty of Engineering-Architecture, Faculty of Divinity and Faculty of Fine Arts first and fourth grade students. Students are selected randomly.200 students are used for the study. Data is developed from 55 survey questions. Survey is distributed to students in school and collected back right after forms are completed. Data collected than evaluated in SPSS program by using Ki-Kare test.Avarage age for students are 21.2 ± 2.4. Menarche ages are 13.2 ± 1.3. 75 % of the students obtained information on menstruation and 25% didn?t. When they were asked if this information was sufficient 68 % replied that it was. Final report indicates no one had the right description, yet 16 % had partial description. It was also identified that 31 % takes less showers, 4 % doesn?t shower during this period and they do not clean the right way. 25 % cleans from back to forward, 2 % doesn?t clean, and 10 % didn?t know that they had to clean. Above results show that students knowledge menstruation knowledges and hygine is insufficient and this creates risk for an infection. We can state that education on this subject must be provided by parents as well as the schools.Key Words: Menarche, menstruation, menstrual hygiene.
