Abstract (EN)

This study addressed the variables of academic motivation, hope and personality characteristics as the predictors of academic procrastination in university students. The study group consisted of students attending the Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University in the 2022-2023 academic year. The Academic Procrastination Scale, the Academic Motivation Scale, the Dispositional Hope Scale, the Adjective-Based Personality Scale and the Personal Information Form were used to collect the study data. Employing the relational research model, the study used SPSS-22 program to analyze the data and .05 significance level was accepted. Correlation analysis was performed to understand the relationship between the variables and hierarchical regression analysis to determine variables' prediction level of academic procrastination. The analyses results concluded that university students' academic procrastination behavior differed significantly according to students' sex, grade level and faculty, and that male students procrastinated more than female students. Another finding of the study was that academic motivation and personality's responsibility, extroversion and openness to experience dimensions significantly predicted academic procrastination. According to the study data, hope and personality's neuroticism and agreeableness dimensions do not have a significant effect on academic procrastination.
