Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of future perception on depression in university students. Additionally, it was aimed to investigate whether there were significant differences in future perception and depression levels according to demographic characteristics of university students. The research was conducted in relational scanning model. The sample of the study consisted of 385 students attending associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs in Istanbul, selected using convenience sampling. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire form containing demographic questions, the Future Time Perspective Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory. The data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, normal distribution analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, t-test, and ANOVA analysis were performed in the analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that future perception had a negative and significant effect on depression. In addition, it was determined that the depression levels of female participants were significantly higher than those of male participants. On the other hand, it was observed that there were no significant differences in future perception and depression levels according to participants' age, educational status, family income status, number of siblings, and living situation with their family.
