The relationship between students' readiness for digital transformation and their digital literacy

The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between university students' readiness for digital transformation in education and their digital literacy. It is a descriptive and correlational research type. The population of the study consisted of all 4th grade students (N: 2769) studying in the faculties of a state university in Istanbul in the fall semester of the 2023- 2024 academic year. Among the 461 4th grade students constituting the sample of the study, the students to be sampled according to faculties were determined by stratified sampling method, and the students were selected by random sampling method among those who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Student Information Form, Readiness for Digital Transformation in Education Scale and Digital Literacy Scale were used as data collection tools. Data analysis of the study was carried out using IBM SPSS 26 statistical package program. The average level of students' knowledge about digital transformation is 5.91±2.20. The majority of the students obtained information about digital transformation from social media, internet, classroom environment, TV, newspapers, magazines and friends. Very few students (38%) had information about studies on digital transformation. Very few students (28.8%) have participated in studies on digital transformation. Very few students think that our country's education system and educators are ready for digital transformation. The average level of students' readiness for digital transformation in education is 6.18± 2.41. There is a statistically positive and moderate relationship between the mean scores of the students in total and all sub-dimensions (Behavioral Attitude and Affective Attitude) and the mean scores of the students in total and all sub-dimensions (Attitude, Technical, Cognitive and Social Emotional) (p<0.05). In line with the results obtained from the research; It can be recommended that educational institutions should be encouraged to develop strategies for digital literacy education and digital transformation process, activities should be organized to develop/increase students' knowledge, attitudes and skills regarding their readiness for digital transformation in education and digital literacy, and continuous training and support programs should be organized to improve educators' digital skills.
