Examination of the relationship between the ego identity statues of university students and their parental authority styles and social values

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the ego identity statues of university students and their parental authority styles and social values. The average age of the survey sample is X ̅= 20.33.Their ages range from 18 to 25 years. The students who are studying in the first and second years of university are in late adolescence. The sample consists of 211 students. Ego Identity Process Questionnaire(EIPQ), Parental Authority Questionnaire(PAQ) and Multi-Dimensional Social Values Scale were used in obtaining the data.One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used as a parametric test with the Pearson Moments Multiplication correlation analysis. And the Tukey test was used in the Post Hoc tests to determine the relationship and the relationship between significance and relationship. According to research findings, a low level of meaningful relationship was found between ego identity formation processes and authoritarian parental authority style. There is a low level of meaningful relationship between ego identity formation processes and social values. It has been found that ego identity formation processes are not significantly different according to age and sex. A meaningful relationship was found between achievement identity and authoritarian parental authority style in identity status. A meaningful relationship was found between identity statues and social values. A meaningful negative relationship was found between faculties and departments and social values between the Department of Special Education and the Faculty of Law only for family values.
