Farmers' perception to the warehouse receipt system and factors affecting their preferences: The case of Konya province

This study aims to investigate the perception of producers towards the the warehouse receipt system (WRS) and the factors affecting their preference for the system in Konya. The primary data of the research was conducted face-to-face in 13 districts with a total of 317 people, including producers who prefer WRS (125 people), producers who do not prefer WRS (156 people), warehouse receipt operators (11 people), and traders (25 people) obtained as a result of surveys in Konya. Descriptive statistics analysis, a two-step cluster analysis method, and binary logistic regression analysis were applied to the data obtained from the questionnaires. The average age of the producers is 55,15 years and the average farm width is 750,63 decares. According to the two-step cluster analysis, the number of variables included in the analysis was nine, the number of clusters formed was three (Cluster 1, Cluster 2, and Cluster 3), and the Silhouette indeks was 0,5. The perceptions of preferring WRS of the producers in Cluster 3 were higher than the producers in Cluster 1 and Cluster 2. The most important variable in the clustering of producers who prefer WRS is perceived behavioral control (1,0). According to the results of the binary logistic regression analysis, the preference of WRS by the producers affects positively the districts of residence, the education they have, the status of having TARSİM, and the status of regular storage. On the other hand, the preference of WRS by the producers affected negatively the non-agricultural business status, income status, source from which the market price was learned and interaction with the outside of the region.
