Determination of the distribution areas and population intensity of sugar beet cyst nematode, heterodera schachtii schmidt (Tylenchida: Heteroderidae) in Uşak and Denizli provinces

The provinces of Uşak and Denizli have great economic importance among the provinces where sugar beet is produced in the Aegean Region. One of the most important pests in sugar beet production is Sugar beet cyst nematode. In this study, the presence, spread and density of sugar beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii Schmidt (Tylenchida: Heteroderidae) in 2018 and 2019 in Uşak and Denizli provinces were investigated. 300 soil samples and sugar beet plant tissue samples showing nematode contamination were taken from 3 districts in Uşak and 4 districts in Denizli. As a result of the research, the areas contaminated with H. schachtii and clean areas were determined. The most intensive contamination in Uşak Province is in Koyunbeyli and Muharremşah villages in the center, in the İslam village in Banaz, and the least contamination is in Azizler village in Sivaslı region. In Denizli province, the most common contamination was determined in Yeniköy in Çivril district, and the least amount of contamination was in Gelinören village in Çal district. Some of the morphological measurements of H. schachtii detected in these areas are also given comparatively. In the Aegean Region, in some districts of Uşak and Denizli provinces, there has been no detailed examination of the spread and density of H. schachtii, which is harmful in sugar beet. Therefore, it is important to find the presence of this nematode as a result of our study in this geographical region.
