Sultan Murad Mosque complex in Skopje

The main subject of this study is Sultan Murad Mosque and complex built by Sultan Murad II during A.D 1436 / 1437 in North Macedonian capital Skopje. In order to understand Sultan Murad Complex's vitality for city and Muslim population living in city, after preliminary research conducted, information is given on history of Skopje and founder (Sultan Murad II) of this work. Located in Skopje over the hill with central view, complex is an early age Ottoman work. When erected, including mosque, imaret and madrasa within its vicinity the complex was added with two tombs, hazire, clock tower, school / education ministry to it over time. In the scope of this work, units of this complex that reached today and disappeared over time were identified. Units reached today were inspected in terms of material, technical specifications, architecture and ornamental elements. Supporting this work with field studies and source readings, the status of complex today and in past was determined, reaching a conclusion and especially the place of Sultan Murad Mosque in early Ottoman architecture was analyzed.
