The effect of the educational material using the in appropriate behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate behaviours in increasing the teacher praises

ABSTRACT The general aim of this study is to determine whether the educational material using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours, is effective in increasing the teachers' praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours and in reducing the teachers' criticism of the inappropriate classroom behaviours or not and whether it has any impact on the reduction of the frequency of inappropriate classroom behaviours of the mentally handicapped student in the classroom or not. The design used in the study is one of the single subject designs, the Multiple Probe Design across Subjects. In the course of the experiment, an initial probe about the true baseline is taken out of every three teachers and every three students, then true baseline data is collected on the behaviours of praise and criticisms of the teacher subject #1 and the inappropriate classroom behaviour of the student subject #1. Following the stabilisation of the teachers' praises, the subject #1 is taught the educational material using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours for 4 days. Then the teacher subject #1 is asked to implement the process of using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours. Then the data on the teacher's behaviours of praise and criticisms and the student's inappropriate classroom behaviour are collected. When the data is stabilised, the true baseline data on the subject #2 is started to be collected and an initial probe is taken from the subject #3. Following the stabilisation of the true baseline data on the praising behaviour of the subject #2, this subject is also given a 4-day course on the educational material and then the subject is asked to implement the process of using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of theVI appropriate classroom behaviours and afterwards data is collected. Following the implementation, the data on the teacher's behaviours of praise and criticisms and the student's inappropriate classroom behaviour are collected. When the data is stabilised, the true baseline data on the subject #3 is collected. For a period of 4 days, the subject #3 is presented the educational material prepared, when the true baseline data are stabilised. After this, the subject #3 is asked to implement the process of using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours. Then the data on the teacher's behaviours of praise and criticisms and the student's inappropriate classroom behaviour are collected. In the analysis of the data obtained during the research the graphical analysis methods are used. The findings of the study give the impression that as a result of the application of the educational material using the inappropriate classroom behaviours as an indication to the praise of the appropriate classroom behaviours, teachers' praises for the appropriate classroom behaviours are increased and criticisms for the inappropriate classroom behaviours are reduced. The findings of the study also give the impression that the frequency of the inappropriate classroom behaviours of the mentally handicapped students is decreased.
