Abstract (EN)

Drugs have been on the agenda for years as the problem of world states and humanity. The harm caused by drugs to states and humanity in many ways is growing day by day. Due to the growing damage dimensions and effects, it has become essential for societies to fight this issue. For this reason, researches are continuously carried out, strategies and policies are developed and studies are carried on. The aim of this study is; To determine the profile of those who committed drug crimes and the social factors affecting drug addiction. The research took place in the institution known as the Directorate of Social Reformatory in Erbil. Within the scope of the research, a questionnaire was applied to 151 people who are in prison for drug use. As the important findings found in the study, it is possible to mention the following: The majority of drug users are low-educated, single and male, they started using drugs mostly because of friendship and personal problems, they first started using cannabis, the majority of drug offenders come from a broken / divorced family, in the region where they live. It was concluded that they did not have difficulty in obtaining drugs and that a large proportion of drug users did not define themselves as religious and did not perform religious services before entering the correctional facility.
