Reflections of 4-6 age Qur'an course education on the family environment in line with parents' opinions: The case of Erzincan province

The preschool period is critical not only for physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and language development but also for religious and moral formation. This study examined the family-level reflections of 4–6-year-old Quran course education. Employing a phenomenological qualitative design, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. The sample comprised 16 parents selected purposively from the full-day İbrahim Duman and Pir-i Sami 4–6 Quran Courses in Erzincan city center. Collected data were imported into MAXQDA and analyzed via content analysis: codes were generated, then grouped into subthemes and main themes. Findings indicate that the course positively influenced children’s daily religious practices, social behaviors, and moral values, and that children generally transferred learned knowledge actively within the family. Due to developmental characteristics, children showed limitations in comprehending abstract concepts and in producing Quranic letters, with imitation, modeling and play emerging as dominant learning modes. Sustaining learning and translating it into behavior depended on school–family cooperation, parental encouragement, and instructors’ pedagogical competence.
