Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the effect of video-supported education on nursing students' ability to perform intramuscular injections in the ventrogluteal area. Conducted semi-experimentally, the study population consisted of nursing students from a public university and a foundation university in Istanbul, studying between September 2022 and July 2023 (N=183). The sample of the study consisted of 106 first-year students who volunteered to participate and met the inclusion criteria, selected through a random sampling method.. The skill video and scenario prepared were evaluated according to the Discern Inquiry Form and Global Quality Scoring scales. Participants were assessed using the Student Information Form and the Ventrogluteal Area Intramuscular Injection Application Checklist. Necessary permissions were obtained for the conduct of the study. The evaluation of expert opinions on the intramuscular injection application skill training video scenario resulted in a Content Validity Index higher than 0.80, thus confirming its content validity and suitability for use in the experimental process. The average score on the Discern Inquiry Form for the skill training video was 4.56±0.60, indicating high quality, and the Global Quality Scoring average was 4.70±0.39, indicating the video's usefulness. The expert opinions yielded Cronbach's alpha values above 0.70, demonstrating consistency and reliability, and the ICC values were also above 0.750, indicating a good level of agreement (p<0.01). When comparing the pre-test and post-test results from the Ventrogluteal Area Intramuscular Injection Application Checklist, an increase was observed in the post-test measurements compared to the pre-test. In conclusion, the video-supported education significantly enhanced the students' ability to perform intramuscular injections in the ventrogluteal area. Video-supported training is an effective tool for imparting intramuscular injection skills to nursing students, thereby significantly developing educational methodologies. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that video-supported educational tools be more extensively integrated into nursing education programs.
