Abstract (EN)

Multiple sclerosis, one of the chronic immune diseases of the central nervous system, can lead to many physical, cognitive and vestibular disabilities along with a lifetime. It is known to affect almost all individuals with MS. For this reason, our study aimed to evaluate the balance difference in the vestibular area between 20 healthy individuals and 20 individuals with MS between the ages of 18-30. In our study, the Tandem Posture Test was applied to both experimental groups. Tandem Posture Test is easy to apply for vestibular assessment, low cost and high reliability. In this test, the patient was expected to maintain his posture and stance for 30 seconds by taking one of his feet forward on a flat surface, with the heel of the other foot touching the toes of the other foot, with the hands aligned to the side, eyes open and looking ahead. The individual who managed to stay in the same position for 30 seconds was considered successful in the test, while those who remained under 30 seconds were considered unsuccessful in the test. The mean age of the participants was 26.12±2.99; The mean age of the participants in the patient group was 26.85±2.41 and the mean age of the participants in the healthy group was 25.40±3.38. The youngest of the patient group participants was 21 years old and the oldest was 30 years old; The youngest of the healthy group participants is 19 years old and the oldest is 30 years old. 70% of the patient participants passed as a result of balance parameter measurements, and 30% of them were found to be failed as a result of balance parameter measurements. Of the healthy participants, 95% passed as a result of balance parameter measurements, and 5% failed as a result of balance parameter measurements. As a result of the chi-square analysis, the chi-square test value was found as X2: 4.329 and the significance level as p: 0.037 between the participants' state of being sick and healthy and the balance parameter passing. In individuals with MS the balance arc differed from healthy individuals, and a significant difference was observed between the two groups compared to healthy individuals. It was determined that patients with MS had a lower balance level than healthy individuals.
