Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Jerusalem has hosted many different civilizations throughout its four thousand year history. The city has a rich culture that comes from the depths of the past, carrying the social, religious and architectural traces of these civilizations to the present day. One of the reasons why Jerusalem has great importance is that it is considered sacred by the Abrahamic religions. Jerusalem has had an important position for Jews, Christians and Muslims. The historical development of Jerusalem began with the Canaanites. It became a kingdom during the time of Hz. David and its center was Jerusalem. The first exile of the Jews began with the construction of the temple by Hz. Solomon and the capture of the city by the Babylonians. Later, the city was ruled by the Persians and Romans in turn. With Constantine's accession to the throne of the Byzantine Empire, Christianity was granted freedom within the state, and this led to Jerusalem shedding its Jewish identity and coming to the forefront with its Christian identity. During this period, Jerusalem was adorned with Christian structures and provided the flow of Christian pilgrims from all over the world. Jerusalem, VII. After remaining under Roman-Byzantine rule for a century, it was conquered by Muslims in 638 and became the scene of the beginning of a new era. From this date until 1097, it was ruled by Islamic and Turkish Islamic states. It came under the rule of Umayyads, Abbasids, Tulunids, Ikhshids, Fatimids and Seljuks respectively. The Crusades started in 1095 and Jerusalem came under Crusader rule in 1099. In his depiction, John of Würzburg went to Jerusalem for a pilgrimage. The route followed was from Akka to Nazareth, then Jenin, Nablus to Jerusalem. He visited Bethlehem and returned via Jaffa. In his depiction of Jerusalem, he depicted the holy places in the city, starting from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. After passing through the Gate of David, he returned to where he started. He did not describe the many temples and small churches left by other nations. He did not provide much information about the communities living in the city. He mentioned the points mentioned in the translation, the places he visited and saw, as well as the places he did not see superficially. We also tried to explain the people, places and concepts in the translation. We wanted to enrich the translation made in this way with footnotes.
