Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of ECRIF taxonomy in foreign language teaching on academic success and learning and studying responsibility. For this purpose, this study was carried out with 56 students at 4th grade of primary education in 2018–2019 academic years. In the research, pre-test post-test control group design of experiment method was used. ECRIF taxonomy which consists of five stages as encounter, clarify, remember, internalize and fluently use was used in teaching of the Cartoon Characters unit took a total of 5 weeks. In the control group, teaching practices were used as stated in the curriculum. In addition, the course and student workbooks were used as sources. At the beginning of the study, academic achievement (listening and speaking) test prepared by researcher and the scale of learning and studying responsibility developed by Semerci and Pamuk (2012) were applied in both experimental group and control group as cluster analysis. The results obtained were compared and two classes for experimental group and control group were formed with the closest mean score. At the same time, the teachers who entered these classes were interviewed in terms of the equivalence of these two classes and it was also accepted by the teachers that these two classes were equal. After these applications, 4/A was chosen as experimental group and 4/B was chosen as control group. At the end of the teaching, academic achievement (listening and speaking) test and the scale of learning and studying responsibility were applied in both experimental group and control group as a post-test. While pre-test – post-test scores were compared by using t-test for dependent groups, the effect size was calculated (by using Cohen's d) if there is a significant difference between the pre-test scores and the post-test scores. As a result of study, it was stated that ECRIF taxonomy provided significant differences in students' academic success and level of learning and studying responsibility on the experimental group. Key Words: Teaching foreign language, ECRIF taxonomy, learning and studying responsibility, academic success
