Abstract (EN)
In the process of language teaching, the tools that enable the most effective learning of the language are usually texts. Recent trends in language teaching are to focus on literary texts instead of artificial and canonical texts. In the later stages of language teaching for new learners of Turkish, excerpts from the works of prominent figures of Turkish literature should be added to the language teaching materials and thus familiarity with the functional aspect of the language should be increased. In addition, learners can be guided to understand the cultural values of the Turks and the subtleties of the Turkish language by starting to know and understand the world of the Turkish society through important works of Turkish literature. This situation reveals the importance of the study. "Billur Köşk Tales", one of the narratives of the Anatolian field, which is one of the hundred basic works of the Ministry of National Education, constitutes the universe of the study, while the sample of the study consists of the tales named "Billur Köşk ile Elmas Gemi, Muradına Eren Dilber, Sefâ ile Cefâ ve Ali Cengiz Oyunu" in the work. These fairy tales are intended to be adapted to the B1 level for use as reading materials in the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Grammatical structures and words that are not suitable for the B1 level were identified with the scanning method. In determining the inappropriate language structures and words during adaptation, in addition to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Program for Teaching Turkish to Foreigners (Turkish Maarif Foundation), studies on adaptation in YÖKTEZ and Dergi Park Academic and Aydın (2015)'s word frequency study and related vocabulary studies were also used to replace idioms and proverbs with level-appropriate ones. Words that have undergone lexical simplification are marked in red, and idioms are marked in dark black. This study have been performed via document review which is one of the qualitative research methods. In the research process, a total of three data collection tools were used: expert evaluation form, original texts and texts adapted to the B1 level. "Billur Köşk Tales", which was included in the scope of the research before the application process,, was adapted to the B1 level by using "Simplification", "Expansion" and "Facilitation" techniques, which are among the text adaptation techniques. After the adaptation process, the original and adapted texts were sent to experts for expert opinion and corrections were made according to the feedback given Key Words: Billur Köşk Tales, B1 level, Text adaptation, Reading skill, Teaching Turkish as a foreign language
