Education of values in Yalvaç Ural's childrens books and the contribution of these books to Turkish teaching

In this study, the works of Yalvaç Ural, who is one of the authors of children's literature, have been examined in terms of education of values and the contribution of these works to Turkish teaching. The study has been conducted in a descriptive style and has been performed by taking the document examination method, which is one of the scanning methods, as a basis. 30 of the works of the author have been taken as the exemplification, which are "Zıpır-Matik Bilmeceler, Denizin İki Yakasından Masallar, Alfabenin Türküsü, Sayıların Dili, Gözü Boynuz İle İzi Yaldız, Kaz Zıpırları, Bir Gök Dolusu Güvercin, Tembeller Orkestrası, Mırname (Büyüklere Kedi Şiirleri), Tepemde Eşek Arısı Gibi Vızıldayıp Durma, Akıllı Minik İle Obur, Müzik Satan Çocuklar, La Fonten Orman Mahkemesinde, Bal Avcısı Küçük Piti, Kırmızı Kızlar Çatıları Gizler, İyi Geceler Bozi, Timsahlar Diş Fırçası Kullanmaz, Gölcüğün Küçük Avcıları, Hayvanlar Yalan Söylemez, Kahraman Süvariler, Kulağımdaki Küçük Çan, Stephen Hawking Herkül'ü Döver, Temel Reis Ispanağı Yoğurtsuz Yer, Anadolu Efsaneleri, Alucura Çay Evi, Korkulu Bir Gün, Küçük Ayı ile Ahlat Ağacı, Küçük Ayının Uzun Yolculuğu, Sincap (Şiirler), Tekir Noktalama İşaretlerini Öğretiyor". These works have been examined in terms of education of the values, being fair, caring for the family union, tolerance, honesty, hospitality, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and helpfulness; and 525 findings were detected in which these values were handled in a closed or direct manner. Based on the data acquired in the study, it has been detected that the values such as love, responsibility, helpfulness, caring for the family union, and honesty in the works of Yalvaç Ural have been used intensively; however, the values such as being fair, hospitality, tolerance, respect and patriotism have been dealt with at insufficient levels. The use of the proverbs, phrases, handiadyoins, structures and onomatopoeic words in the works of Yalvaç Ural has been examined in terms of their contribution to Turkish teaching. In this study, all the pages of 30 children's books have been scanned, and it has been detected that the author used 525 phrases 478 of which are different from each other; 433 handiadyoins 423 of which are different from each other; 111 structures 102 of which are different from each other; 141 onomatopoeic words 117 of which are different from each other; and 28 proverbs that are not different from each other. It has also been detected that proverbs, phrases, handiadyoins, structures and onomatopoeic words are used intensely in the works of the author. It has been concluded that the works have extremely rich contents in terms of contributing to Turkish teaching. In the lights of these data, it has also been concluded that the works of Yalvaç Ural are among the sources that are to be made use of in Turkish teaching process and in transferring the values as love, responsibility, honesty, and caring for family union to the next generations.
