The impact of artificial intelligence on the economy and Turkey

This study examines the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on global economies and evaluates Turkey's position within this technological transformation. AI technologies have become a driving force for productivity growth, cost efficiency, and innovation across all sectors — from manufacturing and finance to public administration and services. According to PwC (2017), OECD (2024), and McKinsey (2023), AI could contribute approximately 15.7 trillion USD to the global economy by 2030. However, this transformation extends beyond economic growth, bringing significant implications for labor markets, skill requirements, and digital inequality. The research compares the AI strategies of major global actors — the United States, China, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and India — analyzing their effects on economic performance, employment structures, and environmental sustainability. The Turkish case focuses on the national AI strategy, industrial and technological investments, the entrepreneurship ecosystem, and emission policies. In conclusion, while AI presents substantial opportunities for economic growth and innovation, it also poses environmental and social challenges if not managed within a sustainable and ethical framework. Therefore, Turkey must adopt a data-driven, inclusive, and ethical AI policy to maintain its economic competitiveness and ensure environmental sustainability in the coming decades.
