Folklore factors in Yasar Kemals` novels

Traditional influence on Turkish literature which developed parallel to the westernization movement after the end of the constitutional monarchy firstly was seen on the language and traditional influence also became more and more important on all literary components after the period of Turkish National Struggle for Independence.A kind of village literature was developed between the years 1940 and 1970, which covered all components of folk culture in Turkish literature.Yasar Kemal` s novels are written according to the reality principles and are rich of sociologic, anthropologic and folkloric components, when the traditional influence is taken into consideration.?Folklore Factors in Yasar Kemal` s Novels? can be divided into two main groups. The first group consists of mythology, epics, fables, fairy tales, folk tales / folk poems and poets which are a type of narrative literature. These components are used in novels generally by applying the editing technique. Fairy tales, epics and folk tales are the most popular components. These components which are mentioned in the group of folk narratives build a common base when they are edited in novels. Folk narratives are integrated into novels by applying the editing technique in accordance with the needs of the hero of a novel.The second group is made up of those components which are not covered by narrative literature. Those are for example fixed expressions, language and narration, figurative numbers, social norms, transition periods, folk` s knowledge, celebrations/ceremonies/feastings, beliefs, games/amusement/sports, folk dance, folk music, dressing, folk skill and arts, folk architecture, traditional cuisine and peoples. These components show sociologic, anthropologic and folkloric features which reflect the life of the author in his/her novel.Yasar Kemal tried to change from local into universal type by turning traditional components into symbols and thus building universal images. These images are the most important components of his novels.
