Abstract (EN)

The administration and thus the expectations of the ruled from the rulers, which have come into existence ever since people started to sustain their lives together, originated the birth of the social movements. People preferred the way in which they can diversely express their rights and desires by moving with the masses so that it could be more efficient. Indeed, since the beginning stages of the communities, there have always been different types of resistance, conflicts, rebellions, and riots in social life. Social movements which are shaped according to the needs of the time and the agenda of the humanity have been subject to science and widely worked on. Thanks to the strong effect of globalization, social movements have experienced changes within itself, and in the 20th century gave its place to new social movements, by taking the title "new". New social movements which have a structure independent from economic and political concerns have occurred with the participants who are mostly based on voluntary basis, and turned into a structure which has a broad participation with the contributions of technology and spreads all over the world by getting out of the local area. In this paper, protests, which started as a reaction over uprooting some trees on 27 May 2013 in Gezi Park located in Taksim, İstanbul, and spread to Turkey in a short span of time, are going to be analyzed in the context of the new social movements, and after examining the transition period between social movements and new social movements, Gezi Park Protests which occurred in Turkey and can be evaluated as a social movement are going to be dealt with. Taksim Gezi Park Protests are also examined with the perspective of the environmentalist movements in the context of new social movements, which we are able to find the traces of them today in all over the world. Keywords: The environmental movement, Travel Park, Social Movements, Artillery Barracks.
